From my experience the far right is slightly more tolerable than the far left, but not by much. What happened to the sane middle? Or are they just not on Twitter?

I think you're equating liberals and the far left and that you perhaps need to do some research. Those two groups are more fundamentally opposed to eachother than liberals and conservatives.

One can lean pretty far to the right and still be considered a liberal in this country. I'm considered "far-left" here, but in Europe, my politics are only just barely crossing the line into left-wing territory.

You need to re-examine your thought processes. The far right would deport or kill all of us if they could, we just want the best of all peoples. The US “radical left” is fairly normal in Europe.
