    Meanwhile, one of the dumber Covid-related comments I've read recently was from someone stating that even if 10x as many people were hospitalized in Louisiana, everything would still be fine, as if there's no limit statewide or per hospital, to beds or hospital workers.

    If you're wondering what's it like for small community hospitals? North Oaks Hammond CEO Michelle Sutton says 89 patients hospitalized, 13 in ER waiting on bed, 50% facility positivity rate, 62 staff members out sick, and forced to convert recovery area into a third ICU.

    Why should we give everyone , including rich people? Because it’s simpler to give everyone money and then apply higher taxes on the rich on the back end, rather than come up with some complicated bureaucracy that manages how much people get.

    Retire means-testing, conditionality, and state-run federal programs. Upgrade to universality, unconditionality, and federally-run federal programs.

    Fascinating trial in Uganda shows: Self-reported happiness improved by 80%. 50% of children in the village went to school before compared with 94.7% after. 20 businesses exist now compared to 2 before the program. All markers of poverty declined.

    You can buy any food you want unless it's this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, or this. The new monthly CTC should be made permanent and it should replace WIC. Trust moms to make their kids' food choices. They deserve that freedom and dignity. We all do.
