Unbeknownst to many around here, I've spent the last 16+ yrs as a practicing international trade lawyer toiling full-time (and then some) in the bowels of Big Law, while policy was only a hobby (Twitter notwithstanding). /2

This arrangement, while fruitful in many ways, prevented me from not only devoting sufficient time to something I truly enjoyed & believed in, but also speaking freely on all sorts of issues in the news (as many journos here can attest!). /3

It also meant that, given time constraints, I've mostly stuck to trade law/econ, even tho these issues touch on (and I'm interested in) all sorts of other things like manufacturing & supply chains, labor/business dynamism, IP, living standards, national security, etc. /4

Going fwd, this will all change. I'll still write on trade, of course, but will be free to write on other important (don't laugh) things - and to engage more fully in the various economic policy debates of the moment (and longer-term) /5

And, given the rise of anti-trade & broader anti-market sentiments on the left & right, I should have *plenty* of material to work with. (I can even end sentences with a preposition now. Quite liberating!) /6
