Well scottie if your paycheck didn't change (it didn't) and you received a lower refund or paid more (did) than it's the tax cut not the accountant. Go back to Kentucky. I hear you guys are hosting the Russian invasion this year

Perhaps your accountant is telling you that your paying paying less; mine is telling me the opposite; Scott, perhaps you need a new one!

I’m not stupid! If I had to pay the IRS this year when I didn’t the last several, due to the smoke in mirrors tax cut/new tax table—it went up as far as I’m concerned. Oh, poor us in the middle have to cover for the loss of Fed taxes from the the Amazons of the world.

Absolutely they went up. Mine sure did and so did every single person I know. We are all middle class.
-
My taxes were lowered. Every person’s taxes I know were lowered. For starters, as soon as the new tax law went to effect, I got a $50 bump per pay check. Add my tax refund to the equation, my taxes being returned to me doubled when compared to prior years. So taxes were lowered.
-
That’s such a lie. There is no way everyone speaking out and telling the truth got screwed in taxes, but a few who are trying to pretend they did. It works the same for all of us middle class people. If you are the 1%, yes, you got a huge tax break.
-
I'm not lying. I'm saying the truth. The people saying their taxes were raised are the liars or have bad tax prepares, unless you are one of those living in a high tax state. What I said is exactly what happened to me regarding taxes. Btw, I can assure you I'm not in the top 1%
-
Mine went down 17%. I use TurboTax and plugged this years numbers into this years and last years TT application. I also took last years taxes and plugged it into this years application. 12% reduction.
-
I used standard deduction this year for first time in 30 years. AMT went away for the first time in 30 years. I owed this year and got a refund last year. But looking at taxes paid it was a LOT lower this year.
-
Yes, for me I usually get a $1600 tax refund. However, this year the refund was lowered to $1400. So someone who didn't know better would say "hey, my taxes went up because I'm getting a lower refund." However, I remember the $50 bump I received in my paycheck with this new law.
-
So I add everything together and one can clearly see that I'm actually getting $2700 back as opposed to my prior years of $1600 back. So yes, there indeed was a tax cut.

Disingenuous- while rates didn’t go up, deductions were cut. Most people don’t care about the details, they care about how much they have to pay.

The devil’s in the details. The changes in allowable deductions for medical expenses and mortgage interest hurt many of us, making the described “tax cut” either non-existent, a break-even situation, or cause people to owe money. I owed money for the first time in years. Truth.

Sorry Scott, but mine went up. The great GOP tax cut is a myth that only benefits the rich.

"Millions of Americans filling out their 2018 taxes will probably be surprised to learn that their refunds will be less than expected or that they owe money to the Internal Revenue Service after years of receiving refunds."
