NYC has a rich history of affordable "social housing," AKA housing that is for people, not profits. But the market and deregulation has driven the costs of these units up. Can the City Council do anything about it? digs in:

Always so nice when a media outlet thanks you for your work and then pays you weeks late like "Yes we appreciate you so much we're going to break employment law and put you out"

Yesterday the NYPD blamed a "gag order" related to litigation for not being able to show up to the City Council's oversight hearing on the SRG. Today, the attorneys involved in that litigation, including , said that there is no "gag order"

Public teachers acting as a political force is a huge win for working class communities, but Chicago’s press is forever obsessed with demonizing the city’s educators in

This is the proper framing for what's going on with New York City, its public servants, and its police

The NYPD's absence made the hearing less about the SRG and more about the central question that faces this City Council: What can they actually do to compel the NYPD to act like every other City agency that is accountable to them? Not much, it seems! hellgatenyc.com/nypd-skips-ove

NYT bosses *constantly* pat themselves on the back for being a wellspring of public good but when their own reporters decry obvious harm done by their stance on trans issues, they get punished for doing "advocacy"

The @nytimes said it won't "tolerate" participation by its journalists in "protests organized by advocacy groups or attacks on colleagues on social media and other public forums” -- in reference to a letter attacking NYT coverage of transgender youth: nytletter.com

I love how Malcolm was an avid photographer and always had his camera on hand, to document or capture things. It's a side of him rarely discussed or shown but he was artistic in many ways; with a deep love for music especially rooted in an immense curiosity that shaped his being.

I once was at a bar on Bourbon Street that was hosting a booty-shaking contest on stage and as our group was getting ready to leave one of my friends pointed to a screen in the corner and said “No let’s stay, they’re showing Frasier on TV”

My first piece in is up! It is all about how, with its anti-trans crusade, the New York Times is refusing to learn from what it has long admitted is a low point in its history: its dreadful coverage of queer people and AIDS
