not trying to pile on but here's where the problem lies: "It was a love scene on camera. Legislating the placement of hands, to my mind, is ludicrous." Sir, it is not ludicrous at all. your face and voice and body activities are constantly legislated. you're an actor!
what if you decided to do physical improv during a dance number or a brawl scene? people would get hurt. and angry. same holds true for love scenes. it's not 1974 anymore.
btw I think "intimacy coordinator" is a good role, and I'm glad it was created. they're the choreographer (or stunt coordinator!) of love / sex scenes. considering how sensitive that stuff can be to shoot, it makes sense to have someone help oversee that section.

I’m no actor, but I think if I wanted to be “instinctual and spontaneous” with a costar I would try clearing it with her—not to mention the intimacy coordinator and the rest of the crew—first.
The way he described it too is creepy af. Ofc performance is important, but so is consent. Not everything has to feel spontaneous. That shit should always be communicated 100%. Even Gaspar Noe who has real stimulating sex scenes communicates comfort with his actors.
An actor’s workplace requires them to sometimes touch a coworker in an intimate way. BC it is a WORKPLACE and not a date it is absolutely imperative that all performers can expect their coworkers will stay in the choreography. If he can’t get that then he should find a new job
