Stop being offended by "gap." Gaps are interesting and prompt study. They do not immediately equate to discrimination or necessity for drastic change. What is the race gap in construction? It's nearly all white males where I live.

WTF is wrong with you? What does that mean? Absolutely nothing! The revenues from science and tech are raceless! This just bring division to a place where there's none!

I'm latino. I descent from Spanish, Portuguese, Black, Natives and the other half is Italian. I know what minorities want. They don't want others telling them what they want. Individuals are above groups, including racial groups.

Interesting visualization. Wonder how robust the relationship is given the low n’s in any one year for some fields? Are these 2011 data only? How does the relationship look with 3 or 5 years of data?

I find it odd that each scientific fields are split out, yet all of the engineering fields are lumped together.

I recall the AA AA students back in the 70s all going into education and social sciences. wonder why that was?

the race gap at "Tech" conferences is sometimes displaced to the gender gap. it's less polite to talk about... I've heard responses like "no qualified candidates" or "maybe Blacks and Hispanics just don't like science" sometimes I'm tempted to agree

my friend laments how she is pressured to go into web design because she is a girl with a PhD. we often do functional programming in Haskell. even web design in Haskell because it's just that great
