I had no idea Carl Reiner was on a path to being a sewing machine repairman until his brother told him about a free New Deal acting class. What a different country we could have if we wanted to spend our money on stuff like that instead of death machines. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/30/arts/television/carl-reiner-dead.html …pic.twitter.com/XyZf8YoOFz

In Carl Reiner's memoir he said: "My brother read an announcement offering free acting classes. The classes were government sponsored...I owed my show business career to my brother, who prodded me to sign up for the free drama class & FDR, who established the WPA."pic.twitter.com/Zfbe65jo6k

Carl Reiner in his memoir: If his brother had not told him about free acting classes offered by the New Deal's WPA, "I might very well be writing anecdotes about my life as a machinist or, more likely, not be writing anything about anything."pic.twitter.com/MvE8rUZcmk

We're watching a serial called Medici. The Medicis were as corrupt as the day was long but Cosimo, in the face of stiff opposition, always went out of his way to support the arts (Brunelleschi, Donatello, Ghiberti...). What a huge difference that makes!
