    New paper with my student Bradon Valgardson (his first lead authored article). We examine the cycle of violence in a genetically informed framework. We find mixed evidence for the intergenerational transmission of violence.

    The argument (which is thrown around quite about around these parts) that "parents don't matter" is simply a strawman. We know parenting matters, but it may not translate into behavior in the ways in which our theories suggest.

    A more empirically rigorous approach can better elucidate the parent-offspring interactions that are MOST meaningful (or detrimental). Associations that persist after taking shared genes into account are much more robust and likely align more closely with true causal influences.

    Parenting matters! But that doesn't mean that we should ignore the role of shared genetic influences or accept findings from studies that stem from flawed methodologies. We can do better!
