It's weird that some comedians can't understand the concept of being too scared or shocked to immediately leave a situation when half of you hold an entire audience hostage every night.

Having been the nice guy/predator in my unforgivable past, here's my take, if it matters. The victims in these situations are absolutely convinced the predator is a good man. The conviction is so deep, it's effectively root-level OS code. Then the beast reveals itself /1/

This is an OH JESUS WHAT THE FUCK moment, where reality is called into question because it does not match the narrative the victim has been fed up until this point. I've seen it. I never knew what it was at the time. Now I do, to my shame and disgust /2/

Some predators are obvious. Easy to spot. Some are really good at fronting. I'd put Bill Cosby on this category. Some deeply believe, at their core, they're good guys. The conviction is so strong it fools everyone. Yet they're hollow inside, missing something good men have.

Part of me wonders how I would have turned out, born a couple decades later. Smart, bright, happy kid moves cross country the week he starts high school. It's a Midwestern jockorama and he's an underweight nerdy polymath. Nerd culture way more acceptable nowadays, so... /1/
