    Heard this news from friends & had to break Twitter sabbatical for Bonin, one of the most principled electeds I've ever seen. He's stood up unapologetically to NIMBYism, car culture, and anti-homeless bigotry, at great personal & professional risk. A huge loss for the City of LA.

    Today I announced I've decided not to seek reelection to the LA City Council. This is a difficult, deeply personal decision, and I’ve wrestled with it for several days, but I’m confident it is the right choice for the right reasons. (thread)

    After a conversation I had with my therapist I've been thinking about seriously curtailing my time on this site, but between an absolutely cursed thread I saw yesterday and an extremely stupid culture war dust-up I saw today, I really think I might just go cold turkey

    Went for a hike yesterday in Fahnestock State Park, up in the Hudson Highlands near Cold Spring. Cold but sunny. Juniper the Arctic Explorer had a blast

    Both related to my career field! I really do feel like I used to get great professional information & connections from being here and it feels like everything has stagnated and all our discussions have become so stale.

    The fact that IBX is going to be the biggest addition to the Subway since *WWII* sort of gives the game away here. Mexico City and Sao Paulo have built entire systems since 1968, to say nothing of China or legacy Euro systems that have doubled or tripled in size since then

    Look, I love the NYC transit system more than anything and I understand politicians are gonna do a certain degree of boosterism, but this is just not true. Best in US? Definitely. We're #1 or #2 in the Americas. But there are so many ways we could be better

    Ope. Hochul said it: “New York City, this region has the greatest transit system in the world.”

    I don't yet have a sense of how Hochul came to the IBX as her signature proposal, but it's instructive to see her take something wonks had been proposing and make it her own vs. how Cuomo would shove his ideas down everyone's throats instead.
