A friend sent along a picture of Krissy from roughly 25 years ago. Also, here's a picture of her from this January.
The one from twenty five years ago is on the left, to be clear.

The day I hire an intern and don't pay them for their work is the day you can beat me to death with a fucking bat

You could be a vile corporate overlord and hire an unpaid intern.

While we're on the subject of the First Amendment: Drag shows are absolutely political speech, y'all, maybe they weren't once, but they sure as fuck are now, the GOP went out of their way to make them so, great job, ya fragile losers

People think fascism happens elsewhere, and not in the US, so please let me remind all y'all that not only is American Fascism not new or unusual, it's fucking held rallies at Madison Square Garden. So, yeah, DeSantis is old wine in a new, shitty bottle.

Just saw someone say "Fascist is a devalued word, Scalzi is being hyperbolic," so just to be clear, as someone who has actually read original sources, DeSantis is a for-fucking-real fascist, look up the term and his smug-ass face peers back up at you

BOOK DEAL NEWS 🎉 My next novel is a cyberpunk samurai space opera (without the space) that I describe as what you'd get if Akira Kurosawa wrote Dune starring a 50-something give-no-fucks swordswoman on her last job, blended with vibes of Blade Runner plus a touch of John Wick.

The story I like to tell about this painting is that Tor paid almost as much for it as it paid me for the book, and then I (happily!) bought the painting from him, so for about 18 months he had made more from Old Man's War than I had. I have caught up since then.
The original painting of the hardcover cover of Old Man's War.

Based on related experiences, I feel very strongly that a robot cat box would freak out our particular cats and then they would decide to poop and pee in new and exciting mystery places, so I'd rather scoop than get new carpet every few months.

I feel like you're about to get 50 suggestions for robotic cat boxes. We have 2 that use crystal litter and those and the cat fountain are the best pet purchases ever.

(Anyone about to suggest that Krissy is my assistant should be aware that she's actually the boss - literally, she's the CEO of Scalzi Enterprises, my LLC - and if any of the Scalzis is going to get an assistant, it will be her)

It's actually a bit of a running joke among other of my author friends that I haven't hired an assistant by now. It's because a) I'm cheap (hides guitars), b) I'm in denial. But even if I did hire an assistant, I doubt I could get them to scoop the cat boxes, they are vile.

AND NOW AFTER A DAY OF SIGNIFICANT PERSONAL AND CAREER ACHIEVEMENT I have to go sift poop out of cat boxes, thank you, you little chaos gremlins, for reminding me of my place in the natural order

In the mail today: the medallion for the Alex Award, given by this year to The Kaiju Preservation Society (and nine other very fine books). It's very pretty. Hardcover book for scale. Thanks, ALA!
It's big and around and golden!

Don't ask me why I was just watching cat pooping videos on YouTube, just know that they exist and I'm very sorry that I had to learn that fact.
