If you have time to tweet, you have time to file a police report. I’m so sorry this happened to you and I’m totally not blaming you in any way...you NEED to understand the importance of contacting police about this ASAP, before tweeting, blogging etc. It could save another person

Agree in principle, but police don't have strong history of treating women as credible witnesses to assaults/potential assaults on us. Reporting could save someone--or be ignored till 20 other women experience it & husbands get pissed. Hope she reports. Understand if she doesn't.

This must be an American thing because ANY time I’ve had issues with my safety here, the police have always treated me as credible, haven taken my concerns seriously and investigated the incident.

It may be. I don't know where you are. I do know how it is *here. I've met some incredible police officers, but mostly, you get skepticism & not-so-subtle second-guessing: It must have been your fault in some way & is it really that big a deal? Change happens slowly.

Canada; it’s very different. change does happens slowly. We, need to speak up in those circumstances of victim blaming, to remind the police, lawyers etc that our behaviour has zero culpability when it comes to being a victim. The onus is solely on that of the perpetrator PERIOD

I get you. Don't assume women here haven't thought of speaking up before. It just historically hasn't gone all that well. Totally agree that responsibility lies entirely w/perpetrators, but police haven't always seen it that way (& a disappointing # still don't).

The police we have are more likely to assault you than handle your complaint properly. Police families are also notorious for domestic violence. What a coincidence. #ftp
