I guess this needs to be said. We all want to do our part and help out. It's not about our feelings, we need to consider the impact of our well intended actions. Just ask before you make a call. We can help AND let people decide for themselves.
Our individual feelings about individual cops are irrelevant. Data and lived experience both point to the fact that police misconduct is routine. It puts people in danger, especially those who have been marginalized, like our chronically homeless neighbors.
And this "don't talk to homeless people" approach falsely implies that they are somehow dangerous or criminal by virtue of being homeless. That is not the case. If you're uncomfortable asking for consent, get uncomfortable or walk away. #harmreduction
