The teams that respond work with NYPD. You are calling police, just ask first. Hypothermia can injure or kill people, so can police.

Our individual feelings about individual cops are irrelevant. Data and lived experience both point to the fact that police misconduct is routine. It puts people in danger, especially those who have been marginalized, like our chronically homeless neighbors.

And this "don't talk to homeless people" approach falsely implies that they are somehow dangerous or criminal by virtue of being homeless. That is not the case. If you're uncomfortable asking for consent, get uncomfortable or walk away.
