RE #CodeBlue & calling 311 for homeless people out in the cold: you absolutely should not do that without the express consent of the person.
The teams that respond work with NYPD. You are calling police, just ask first. Hypothermia can injure or kill people, so can police.

I guess this needs to be said. We all want to do our part and help out. It's not about our feelings, we need to consider the impact of our well intended actions. Just ask before you make a call. We can help AND let people decide for themselves.

Our individual feelings about individual cops are irrelevant. Data and lived experience both point to the fact that police misconduct is routine. It puts people in danger, especially those who have been marginalized, like our chronically homeless neighbors.

Fyi: implicit bias training is inconclusive in actually addressing and reducing racial bias. But that notwithstanding, the NYPD and DeBlasio have not even made an effort even if it doesn't work. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25314368

Exactly. This training is the most basic middle of the road "just to say we did" response. Some effort to mitigate the harm. Instead the killer cop got a raise and his colleagues are still out criminalizing our neighbors every day.
