I think Clojure should be easier to use for beginners. But I'm skeptical this is the root problem because JS has become very hard to set up for beginners. Yet JS usage continues to grow--and get more difficult. Perceived value trumps ease-of-use.

I think it’s mostly word of mouth. There are so many js programmers that invariably it’s going to seem like consensus is js ... and they just got one more vote next time around.

I'm sure there's also something about always being able to get help. There's always someone who ran into exactly the same problem setting things up as you.

Are you implying that people try Clojure but get frustrated due to insufficient support?

Support is one answer to the problem of difficult setup.

Agree, but I think the biggest bottleneck is at the top of the funnel. Would be interesting to see conversion rate for clj(s) though.

That was entirely true for me when I tried Clojurescript. Almost gave up after two days of setting up and understanding the moving pieces. JS is horrendous, but due to community size you can find almost any starter pack or a “here, set up a project in 5 minutes”

Oh, I forgot to mention: this was almost a year ago. From what I understand, many of the pains have gine away. AFAIR including JS modules from outside CLJS is now possible etc.

Yeah. There has been a very easy happy path for a few years now. The problem is discovering it and staying on it. :) We could definitely improve there.
