I know this is widening the scope, but in the context of variant entity you should mention multimethods and that you can build type hierarchies using only keywords (we use the latter a lot in Metabase).

Slight OT but I’ve never built type hierarchies on top of keywords. Would be curious to learn more about what kind of problems you solve with that. :)

Yeah, I'd love to see a simple example for hierarchies. I've never used them for real.

... isa? and multimethods work great as you can jump up and down the ladder of specificity; you retain better separation of concerns (and later decision binding) than if all this would be encoded in the "proper" type. And last but not least ... 2/3
