If the number one concern really were safety of children, we would have a vaccine for kids under 12 by now, keeping them safe from Covid. The lack of re-weighting of risks by FDA to account for a pandemic is really catastrophic.

One of the first major projects proposed under Cambridge's new Affordable Housing Overlay throws in the towel. Neighbors fought this nine-story building on Mass. Ave. on grounds it would "stick out like a sore thumb." (The building next door is six stories).

One time, when I was the design lead for the redesign, I had to present the new design and UX experience to the Intuit lead lobbyist. He threw a fit and left the room screaming that it was “Elizabeth Warren’s dream” & demanded we make it harder to navigate

Happy Child Tax Credit Day! Remember that giving kids cash improves nearly all outcomes later in life, including educational, health, and labor market outcomes. And this is not to mention all of the positive effects that the CTC has on parents too.

I do feel that the movement to end advanced math classes conflicts with the Biden administration's stated goal of preserving and extending U.S. dominance in key high-tech industries in the face of international competition.

Newark Police officers did not fire a single shot during the calendar year 2020, and the city didn’t pay a single dime to settle police brutality cases. That’s never happened, at least in the city’s modern history. Oh, and crime is dropping.

Exasperating this is still a thing, after a year of constant messaging that plexiglass partitions do not block viral aerosols that flow around like smoke. At some point you have to ask people who understand air & aerosols. By HT

Just talked to someone in a call center in the Philippines who claimed that there is a new variant over there that 1) is 3x-12x more transmissible than the UK variant and 2) infected the majority HC workers at one hospital *all of whom had already been vaccinated*. 😳

Yes this. The conversation is something like the mid-2000s debate over whether torture works. It basically doesn’t, but to even have that debate is to have surrendered something.
