If you’re a designer who has questioned the “flat trend” since the start, this post by Eli Schiff is a must: http://www.elischiff.com/blog/2015/4/7/fall-of-the-designer-part-i-fashionable-nonsense …

@sazzy My take on flat and trends, for what it is worth: https://www.kevadamson.com/talking-of-design/article/flat-has-some-depth … / cc @eli_schiff

@KevAdamson You make some interesting points, but I find the technological advancements imply & necessitate the opposite results that you do

@KevAdamson I do agree flat is not merely a trend. Otoh, dimensional design is not a trend either. Each is made up of movements however.

@eli_schiff Agree. I would say "flat" has more of a reasoned foundation though. Dimensional, imo, was getting far too "masturbatory" at peak

@KevAdamson accusations of masturbatory intent don't really stick. What have I done? Anything which inspires pleasure is then criminalized

@eli_schiff I merely meant there is more scope for "over indulgence" with dimensional. Just in general.

@KevAdamson depends how you define self-indulgence. My post "The Mental Model" addresses massive self indulgence on the part of minimalists.

@eli_schiff So in summary then: it depends :)

.@sazzy good minimalist design is hard to do well, but easy to impersonate.

@sazzy Also, as a developer, it feels like I’m being blamed for the design trend, when all I’ve done is comply with what designers want.

@sazzy I just have a few nits to pick with this piece: Apple wasn’t the one who originated this trend. If anything, it was Google.
