Last night at an Alabama work release program, an incarcerated man was assaulted by an officer. He was bleeding from the head, but they refused to get him medical attention. A group of incarcerated men try to get him help by calling attorneys and loved ones on the prison phone.
The group of about 15 men who tried to get him help were woken up at 2 AM and handcuffed. They were told they were being shipped out. At least one of them was sent to a maximum-security facility. Remember, transfers are supposed to be suspended during the #COVID19 crisis.
All of these men were within months of their parole hearings. Now, they will likely be sent back to prison and denied parole, all for trying to get help for a man with a head wound. When an attorney try to call the facility to get more information, the lieutenant hung up.
Over a yr. ago, the DOJ threatened to take over Alabama prisons, citing unnecessarily hostile conditions and a lack of accountability for leadership. Nothing has changed since that report came out. What are they waiting for?? @bshelburne @WarOnDumb @laurenk_gill @itsmelissabrown
Also now they have took all the inmates tv,weights and privileges away. The guard had already handcuffed the one innate and after that hit him over the head with a 2×4. Only then did the other men jumped in is what I was told.
This is awful! Such abuse! But I’m not surprised. I witness first hand their abuse in the city jail. The way the talk and treated those people I was in disbelief. Denying them medicine when someone asked
Also I heard the officer was being investigated from another camp for sexual harassment so they transferred him to Childersburg wr. Why? If he was being investigated he should have been on leave or something. Not transferred to another prison to cause more trouble for inmates
We heard he is a habitual problem, and @ADOCDunn and @ALCorrections keep protecting him.
Appx. 18 people transferred. 9 to St Clair and 9 to Donaldson. These numbers are approximates but should be close to accurate.
