    Absolutely agree with everything

    So, as a (relatively lol) young person who spent two months in hospital nearly dying of Covid and just had my 4th post-covid surgery last week, I’m about to rant about this new Ontario Emergency break” so bear with me through my very first Twitter thread:

    ...and grocery store workers. Institute paid sick leave & stop the spread of the virus in our warehouses where people are getting COVID-19. Open vaccination clinics in racialized & hotspot areas (often overlapping).

    Another mockdown is upon us. This rinse-repeat semi closure biz is getting us nowhere. Close Ontario for two weeks. Pay everyone who needs financial support to stay home. Start inoculating those who need it most including essential workers, that means teachers...

    This whole thread is 🚨 but particularly this bit about telling people how they can socialize, work, be safely is the way forward. Fear no longer drives our understanding of COVID-19 & it’s showing up in ⬆️ ICU patients.

    Communications should now be heavily weighted towards directing people to less risky behaviour. Let ppl know "how they can socialize"...e.g. outdoors. Its a vastly different mindset once we adopt a harm reduction approach (which is well supported by evidence) 9/

    I had an outdoor hang out with 2 of my closest lifelong friends & talk turned to the current erosion of the social contract - shockingly poor pandemic actions to abhorrent actions against indigenous people in Canada. One undercurrent linked it all: A lack of empathy

    Oh good. You got an appt and I’m happy about that, but because you went all the way north to get it, you took that appt away from this community that can’t travel far. This is not a fair & equitable vaccination plan.
