Dunno, personally we would probably have wanted to be where we are career-wise, if we had been able to even conceive of it back then. If there's something wrong in the world, people who might have the ability to make it better should try to be in a position to do that.

Or to put it another way, we were a lot more optimistic about the potential of technology back then, but if we'd been pessimistic we'd have landed in the same place, for the same reasons.
