I see BIPOC and other underrepped communities regularly take the time uplift/amplify their colleagues. It’s not something I see as much from fellow white creatives. Have an interview? Shout out someone outstanding from your cast/crew. Post about them. Use

Press is how people get their next opportunity. The industry pays attention to followers, likes, RTs, as much as (if not more than) reels/credits. I often talk about BIPOC actors getting the standout roles- why? Bc that’s what gets the attention/press to move careers forward.

Instead we often see underrepped people in roles w/o dimension/storylines. If awards for costar roles existed, you’d see a lot more diversity at awards shows. Sidenote: that category should exist. It’s FAR harder to do a small role w/ no full character than one that’s fleshed out

In any case, if you want to see new faces/more diversity in front of & behind the cameras, please, take the time to amplify/shoutout people who don’t easily get/can’t afford the press. Inclusivity isn’t just giving people an opportunity, it’s setting people up to THRIVE.

I should add, I’m speaking on the entertainment industry because it’s the one I’m in, but the amplification of marginalized voices is universally applicable. So don’t be shy. Amplify. (Omg that’s truly terrible. Sincerest apologies. I’ve officially lost it).

Diversity is viewed as a politically correct, moral and social cause that comes at the cost of performance. This is a false equivalence. It is the fundamental fabric of our existence, innovation, business, motivation and politics. Feedback appreciated!https://medium.com/swlh/you-dont-know-what-you-don-t-know-40b81ba4cd9 …

And to that end, that's why we exist! Press is so hard to get. Our main initiative (more to come) is to amplify creators in entertainment w/ our Brown Geek Spotlight, reviews, features & more.
We're new but together we got this! Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
