    what surprised me was that, even when the headline was a budget cut, the reality was (extremely) complicated: some cities just cancelled planned police budget increases, or cut police budgets at similar proportions to total budgets

    overall, police budgets in the biggest 50 cities changed very little from last year, and i found. what's new is the commitment to fund alternatives. (with 🔥 graphics by !)
