Part of the problem is though the people voting for Jordan don't seem to care if the House an get on with business. So they have no incentive to vote present or for Marthy. Not unless he makes more concessions, at which point moderates might abandon him.

That isn’t true. The main purpose of this is to force McCarthy to be a strong advocate for the people. They are letting him know he needs to be strong or he will face the music.
McCarthy from CA: GOP or not puts him in same cartel as Pelosi; Independent of Party do not want someone from the Peoples Republic of California in the House Speakership: If from CA will come close to defaulting to Pelosi's next term; Find a Congressperson from Texas or Florida.
