Richard Stallman is homeless: https://stallman.org/seeking-housing.html … If anyone trustworthy in the Boston area has a place where he can stay then email rms at http://gnu.org . Additionally it might be good to find out how this happened and setup a support system to prevent it.

The fact that you think someone deserves to be homeless and risk death for their political views says you’re not nearly as liberal as you think you are. Additionally, the core ethos of fascism is a classification of anyone you disagree with as an enemy. Am I your enemy now?
-
1. Did I ever say Stallman deserves to be homeless? No. I questioned why you are spending your capacity on a bad actor. 2. Did I even reference his political views? No. I referenced his _actions_ of repeated & deliberate alienation over a 30-year timeframe.
-
You might find it fruitful to ask yourself why you feel so defensive about this.
-
I’m not defensive, I’m pointing out that your supposed progressive views are actually authoritarian and abusive. By questioning my motivation for helping someone and implying I’m not allowed to help them, or that helping them means I agree with them, you *are* being a fascist.

You can always find another group that's more downtrodden than the person or group of people you're helping now, that's not a reason to stop helping whoever you're currently helping.
-
I’m not arguing for seeking the most worthy person to help. My criticism is much narrower.
-
I’m questioning why Zed, a _public_ figure in tech, would _publicly_ assist a man who for 30 years has denigrated, belittled, and pushed out from tech people from marginalized groups.
-
Once again: because I don’t think that deserves a death sentence and an event like this to a person like Stallman could very well end up that way. I also reject the implication that helping him means I agree with him. That’s how fascists think.

Someone could have an emotional attachment to RMS because of his positions on software, things he's made that we all use every day, and therefore be inclined to help. I don't think that constitutes an endorsement any more than helping anyone in need constitutes an endorsement.
-
I also don't think our capacity to help needs to be rationalized. People can have a pet charity for example that's not the single most worthwhile charity out there and this doesn't somehow speak poorly of them.

Because Stallman has been a very central person for making tech available and affordable. Without Free software, I and many others would have lived very different lives, and the Internet would have been a different place. Indigenous climate activists probably also gained from it.

Nobody has an unlimited capacity to harp, either. The fact that I'm spending my capacity on someone like you, rather than, say, something you think more valuable says a lot about the type of behavior we want to see more of.
-
Yeah, but who the fuck are you?
