Oh for fuck’s sake - haven’t we had enough of these ridiculous “tech is making us stupid” pieces? Tech is _changing_ what your brain has to pay attention to. Don’t mistake change for ruination. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/ditch-the-gps-its-ruining-your-brain/2019/06/05/29a3170e-87af-11e9-98c1-e945ae5db8fb_story.html …pic.twitter.com/JeSS6GLTIg

It’s at times like this I like to recall that Socrates felt literacy destroyed the mind. He was very against it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agreed. This may be apocryphal but the internet told me the same things were said of books when printing presses made books widely available.

Socrates said writing was making people stupid. I don't know whether that was before or after he prevented Euthyphro from starting the abolition of slavery.

I'd read the piece critically, but my brain was destroyed by too much VHS back in the 80s.

This article is so short-sighted. I moved to a new city w/my two Millenial college student kids. We put a paper map up in kitchen for ref, but used gps for all other purposes. Who has time/energy to walk around folding/unfolding a paper map all darn day? And in car/in traffic?

Plus the number of times tech has saved my ass by warning/rerouting me for delays/wrecks on long drives back "home" has a real impact, too. (Thank you, @waze)

I can't help but notice as a Motorcyclist for more than 20+ years that overall driver skill has gone to shit since widespread use of GPS nav systems and smartphones became omnipresent.
