This was written about Amazon but could be about any tech company - parents with stay-at-home partners (mostly men) always do better and advance faster than parents who don’t. It doesn’t have to be that way. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-04/holdout-jeff-bezos-confronted-by-amazon-moms-demanding-daycare …pic.twitter.com/R8KWYg0wO0

Companies that actually make it a policy to support parents - not just daycare up to school age, not just parental leave, not just backup daycare - will survive & thrive. The rest...good riddance.

p.s. I don’t see ANY company doing this. It’s super clear that current policies are set by/oriented towards people who have *young* kids. I have a 10yo and a teenager and I do this parenting thing on my own - and here’s what I want:

      1. Mildly sick kid dropoff service 2. Great work from home support for when it’s more than “mildly” sick 3. Bus to bring my kids to afterschool program at my office, so we can all go home together

Have you considered gathering together the parents at your company who want a drop-off service, and working together to organize and pay for it? Like a coffee club. If you want the company to do it, they will just have to take the same amount out of your wages to pay for it.

Have you considered not implicitly accusing people of being lazy? Highly recommend that approach.

I'm suggesting a way it could be demonstrated that there is sufficient demand to cover the cost. Big companies don't like blazing trails, right?

Well let’s see, my company has more than 10,000 employees in SF. I have no idea how to even get ahold of all the parents with school age children. Let’s say I could; potentially 100s of kids. There are also 100s of public schools in SF & they end at 3 different times.

How would I work out an optimal bus schedule? How do you even hire a bus? How many aides do we need? What about insurance? Nope, this is a full time job for a professional. Likening it to pooling money for coffee is ignorant and insulting.
