Great article, and struck a real chord. My friend died nearly 6 years ago, but until his parents memorialised his page last year, he still get generic birthday messages posted from old Uni mates who were either on autopilot or clearly none the wiser!

Thank you! And oh god that’s terrible, but sadly it seems quite common

Even memorialising not foolproof - my friend's page was hacked, family got control back and memorialised it, and now that has also been hacked, all friends deleted etc. Facebook useless when trying to get it sorted, now it's just gone forever.

You definitely aren't alone here - I saw stories like this from a lot of people but the policy is that *allegedly* no one can get into he account. But obviously there are more ways to hack an account beyond just getting the password.

Interesting article. I had this recently, with FB reminding me of the birthday of a friend who had passed - an unsettling experience.

My best friend in high school died 9 years ago, facebook still reminds me of her birthday every year...its um...bit creepy and upsetting tbh. I dno't think her parents even realised she had a FB (she was only 17 at the time)

This is all quite sad and upsetting. Also, often, the 'memorialised' deas on FB are not really them, but a carefully curated version of their lives.
