Fair point. One of the things that keeps me subscribing though is that I often get hit with a piece/writer I honestly just wouldn’t have read otherwise that I end up being really into. There was a piece on Lyme Disease of all things a few months back that was just... the best.
I think the point is just that The Atlantic has a consistent history of platforming culture wars stuff over hard-hitting reporting from their (mostly incredibly sharp) staff. JS is consistently given covers while others like Ed Yong get relegated to smaller spaces!

totally agree + agree re their covid coverage: it's been incredible. i do also think it's a bit unfair to say there should have been a cover on pandemics last year (although i guess ed *did* predict it). i just think they should start valuing that great work over pieces like JS's
