Friend bought a new pet and is open to names - I badly want the kudos of choosing the winner. It got me wondering more generally: how did your pet get its name?

our dog is called Martha because we think pets having very human names is funny. apparently two syllables is good for teaching them recall - other options included nancy, judith, margot, and arthur if we'd gotten a boy!

All ours had human names. George, Lizzy (after Thin Lizzy), Thomas the sock thief, Rosie all cats. Bonnie, Lucy & Daisy dogs; Oz and Eddie rabbits, Stan & Olly and Emile Heskey the fish. Not all at the same time.
