Really enjoying the sheer volume of columns / comments saying the media shouldn't comment on a celebrity's weightloss. Like, maybe don't write about it then?
But then that just leaves right wing/gross places to celebrate it? We’d live in a vaccuum of fat shaming otherwise? Idk, I get why people are responding!

But if your column's point is that we shouldn't be celebrating OR denigrating, just not commenting at all, then doesn't the very writing of the column undermine that point ?

I mean sure, but then how does literally anything get stopped? If people didn't right those columns, people would just be celebrating her weight loss undeterred and uncriticised. Someone with a platform/sway has to argue that point first if things are going to change imo

I get what you mean re. leaving a vacuum of gross but sometimes I think it might be better just not to engage with the gross at all
