I totally get this point! But my opinion is that a) it's more important to remove this stuff during this pandemic rn and b) most people using WhatsApp don't really think about that part of it.

That is an intriguing point - wonder how many people are aware it's encrypted. There's a lot we can do *not* on WhatsApp about this problem too don't forget

yh totally! what this piece was originally going to be before the forwarding news was how those of us living with boomers in lockdown have suddenly realised how much they treat WA like a social media platform. i don't think they see it in the way that we/tech literate ppl do

Fair play. I respect your view, there's a balance to strike and WhatsApp misinfo most definitely is a big problem - but make no mistake, once you remove that encryption, it's gone forever. Limiting forwarding will go a long way I think (and already has).
