I personally posted about it to warn my friends because I was hacked within days of downloading the app. So my personal posting wasn’t Gen Z chain mail, it was an actual story. Obviously it may not have been due to Houseparty but it was a mad coincidence if not

It was probably a coincidence. There's a LOT of users of this app. IMO there's two main factors at play: 1. There's a general uptick in online crime right now due to covid-19 2. Survivor bias (the small number of people who get hacked due to unrelated things post about it)
