I have always been one of the “wtf, who are the bots driving driving Selena Gomez fandom” people, but I have now become one of the hundred million

Because she’s so stealth-huge she sort of gets ALL the good songs that Britney and Katy and Rihanna would have once upon a time gotten so it’s impossible not to find her albums compelling even though I’ve never felt one emotion about her

her history is really interesting in that she was a teen actor then a successful singer on the back of her fanbase and not critics, then became A-List from her relationships so at this point her music is honestly really good but it takes second chair to her Fame

Even more complicated imo because she has always been almost always known as a musician in the way that a lot of celebs are (think anna kendrick and hailee steinfeld) but her career as a musician has also never managed to supersede her career as a celebrity
