I just had a really jarring experience that I’m cautious to tweet about because I fear it’ll hurt my career but I’m going to share it anyway

After a series of questions about it, the (male) presenter asked why anyone should care because politicians have been lying for years. And then — THEN — implied I may not know that fact (and that I only care about this issue because it’s on social media) because I’m too young

The direct quote: “speak to a few people older than you and you will see that politicians have been fabricating things for decades, it’s just it’s now moving to newly available platforms”

I can’t describe how weird it is to be live on a programme I was asked to come on because of my expertise and be patronised like this. If I was a white man, this wouldn’t have happened

Not a lot of people write about what I write about and everyone in this field works really hard to show how serious this stuff can be. It’s defeating to have mainstream broadcasters feign interest by inviting you on and then show absolutely no respect for you or your work
