People get really defensive about the right of journos to do bad work because "a job is a job" but what I find really striking is the idea that people want those pieces in their name??? You know that shit can be screenshotted?? Like forever??? Do you really want that byline?????? https://twitter.com/MarkDiStef/status/1176468874172227584 …

I make so little money off my writing that I don't think I'd qualify for VAT and I devote a lot of my time to often boring corporate projects but also I think that's fine because I want control of my image and pieces???? I don't think that's weird??? Not every hole is a goal?????

Like I literally led pub crawls for Brits abroad and stag dos for around 5€/hour and lived off rice and beans for ages before I got my first byline, for a profession ruled by "objectivity" journalists are so dramatic lol

YES. it's the self-glorification and self-aggrandisement of the whole industry and it's like......you won't die if you work a normal job

YES. I'd easily rather go back to working in a call centre than accept work at certain outlets. And if you do go into that work knowing what it'll be like, you should accept the criticism that comes with it. You've not made some noble moral sacrifice at the altar of journalism.

just wild how many people heard "remember to ask yourself: Why is this story important, and why is it important that you're the one telling it?" and thought "because i'm a tool with a loose grasp on how to use semicolons and even looser grip on morality"

Lol to think that holding yourself responsible for your actions stops the moment you enter a newsroom
