Really good and important article by @sarahmanavis @NewStatesman on Noa Pothoven and how the media reported this all wrong. She flags up baisc fact checking fails. Noa’s story is really concerning and sad. It really is, in so many ways. Just going from the journalistic side, I’m always amazed how people rely on the internet for all their answers but don’t (or won’t) actually ring people. The (wrong) story was everywhere today - broadcast & print/digital You wrote such a good piece

Wholeheartedly agree. As someone who’s whole beat is to operate online, I really love the internet and how useful it is for unearthing stories and the communities that thrive on it. But for god’s sake it’s not a replacement for *verifying the goddam story*
