I wrote about how, despite their tech bro connotations, more and more women and non-binary people are taking solace in meal replacements. Please enjoy the headline:https://www.newstatesman.com/science-tech/technology/2019/04/ladies-huel-lunch-rise-meal-replacements-feminist-act …

Before I share some of the interesting/nice anecdotes from this, I feel I must say that meal replacements have lots of issues - both in terms of effects on mental health and some of the physical results https://www.newstatesman.com/science-tech/technology/2019/04/ladies-huel-lunch-rise-meal-replacements-feminist-act …pic.twitter.com/2CXbctn3rl

I know this is hard to conceptualise, but I do recommend actually reading the piece before giving me your opinion on the piece

Meal replacements help some women save time on things that are often sexist-ly coded as female that they don't give a shit about. Even someone who told me me that she can enjoy cooking said that it's not a priority, and that "something's got to give": https://www.newstatesman.com/science-tech/technology/2019/04/ladies-huel-lunch-rise-meal-replacements-feminist-act …pic.twitter.com/q7OKcqbM2S

Huel is born out the "bio-hacking" trend popular amongst tech bros, which in many cases is just very scary disordered eating. ICYMI, I wrote about that too:https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/health/2019/04/jack-dorsey-twitter-ceo-diet-eating-disorder-and-silicon-valley-normalises-it-tech-fasting …

If you're a producer I'd love to go on TV/the radio to talk about both of these piece 👀

Just a friendly reminder that I would enjoy talking about tech health trends, bio-hacking, meal replacements, etc. on a panel/in a broadcast context 😎

Hi Sarah, can you tell me what other time-saving measures are feminist? Is hiring undocumented cleaners for below minimum wage a feminist act? Is it feminist to regularly skimp on sleep? Or to cut out face-to-face contact with friends and family? Thanks in advance.

Hey Natalie - thanks for your reply. As a lot of us have said in the replies (and even in the piece!) it is definitely a symptom of a fucked-up dystopian society where people feel constrained. And as the piece also says, it is entirely problematic in the way some people use it!
