A third of millennials will never be able to afford to buy their own home, yet the government refuses to build more homes for them to protect older generations enjoying decades of house price growth. But sure, worry about TV licences.https://twitter.com/IndraWarnes/status/1095356793763651584 …

This is wildly misreading the piece? It talks about the Tories going back on a manifesto promise and how the BBC can either cut its funding for loads of channels or do this. It doesn’t say to focus on this over young people’s issues? But sure, go off on a young female writer.

Also, the channels most likely to be cut if the BBC are forced into this.... will be those watched by Millennials?

Sarah ManavisVerified account @sarahmanavisReplying to @RMCunliffeYeah but the govt is saying they won’t pay. And the BBC paying would mean potentially cutting funding to programmes that...do highlight these issues? Seriously, going to town on a young writer is really awful to do when you’re a big name online, I’d consider deleting this.1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

Dawn has nearly 10 times as many followers as I do. Are you going to tell her off for going after a younger, lesser known female writer?

No because she’s not quote tweeting you to her followers and creating a strawman. Also the power dynamic is different between you, a featured editor with a blue tick, and a digital sub with a couple hundred followers and two well known women in the media industry

I really don't think I have the kind of influence you think I do. I've never got upset with anyone, however many followers they have, for drawing attention to something I've written. That's how online debate works. I didn't attack her, it wasn't personal, I just think she's wrong

Also, a tip for her: if she's got a New Statesman email address, she can get blue-tick verified. I'd recommend applying for anyone in journalism.

She still has 1/15th of your visibility? And that’s only counting twitter. I would again, implore you to delete this strawman argument. You’re inciting a pile on and that really fucking sucks for young people early in their careers who haven’t written anything offensive.

Really not inciting a pile-on. I haven't attacked her, only said I disagree with what she wrote. In fact, the only attacks so far have come from you. (Or is that allowed because you have fewer followers?) I wish more people had drawn attention to my work when I started out
