I think the hardest thing about getting your head around UK immigration policy is that so many of the terrible stories you hear aren't screw ups - theyre the intended outcome of a considered policy
yes! a lot of people are like "oh, you'll be fine" or "you're not the kind of person who will get kicked out" which is a) fucked up and b) misunderstanding that a lot of people who have lived here for years + married to a brit + have stable jobs will be kicked out bc of POLICY

I'm really sorry you are having to deal with this stuff. I imagine a lot of that mentality stems from people's ideas of what constitutes an unlawful immigrant being so far removed from the reality of how it can happen.

Like, when a lot of people talk about illegal immigrants they just think it means people clinging onto the bottom of trucks or something (who obvs still have a right to claim asylum anyway)
