A fucking men, Sarah. Also: 1. owning physical books is not virtuous. 2. she is not suggesting that you throw these books into a bonfire. They could actually wind up in the hands of people who might not otherwise have access to them if you donate them, etc.
yes! it is so obviously rooted in this weird obsession with showboating, and conflating "owning lots of books" with "being intelligent". and yes - nobody is telling you to get rid of your books! and there is equally nothing wrong with people who don't have loads!

It's also so intensely hypocritial. These same people rant about materialism and the environmental impact of every goddamned thing, but somehow books are exempt from all that. Writers make a shit ton more from ebook sales than from "real" books.
