Okay here's an unironic question: how do people throw and organise parties without using a Facebook event? I'm not FB friends with everyone I'd want to invite, but I feel like not having a Facebook event would ultimately result in me awkwardly messaging **everyone** individually

Email. But 99% of my parties are lunches or dinners where I cook for every guest, and so I need formal RSVPs in advance to shop and meal plan. Email suits that model, but I accept it's quite an old-school way to socialize.
tbf, email is old school but an increasingly appealing option

It puts people on the spot where the "maybe" (read: if something cooler doesn't turn up) option that FB encourages is not so available. And I give a reply date: "I'm placing my Ocado/Tesco/whatever order on X date. So if you wanna eat, I need to know by then."
