Reminder also that you don’t have to meet 100% of the criteria to apply! Hiring is all about choosing someone hiring managers can trust with their figurative baby. Having X, Y and Z makes trust easier, but that doesn’t mean you can’t earn it with your own unique experience.
That’s what your cover letter is for: showing the hiring manager how and why your experience demonstrates the qualities that they believe make a candidate trustworthy. Some folks are willing to make long-term investments for the right person.
And on our side, many of us are writing more inviting, more inclusive job descriptions that make you feel you got what it takes to make it. So take the leap. There's no other way to one day land a dream job.
I've been in my current job for almost 6 years. The job description was immense (people who wrote my recommendation questioned my ability even). I still applied. Apparently only 3 people did, where I thought there'd be a huge competition, and I go it! Doing ok so far :D
I find most applicants are qualified or could easily get up to speed within a month, it's more about finding the right fit, enthusiam and willingness to learn goes a long way.
