The 1993 Secret Garden was filmed in a surprisingly intense/often foreboding style. My five-year-old was covering her eyes through a lot of it even though nothing bad was actually happening.

Legit this film scarred me as a kid. I didn’t even know what was going on, but the scene where the mother is called away, leaving the child alone in the garden? I still think about that.

To the degree now that if I find myself disliking something about a person I like, I imagine them as the child and me as the mother to guilt myself out of it. Cos no shitting way am I leaving a kid in that garden.
