Writer friends, if you had to suggest a single piece of media for me digest to improve my writing skills, what would it be and why? Can be an article, book, movie, comic etc.

The Art of Writing Fiction by Andrew Cowan is full of loads if really good tips that really helped me. But mainly, I’d say find a writer whose style and rhythm you aspire to and listen to them on audible to get that rhythm into your head.

My writing is always best when I’m putting words to the rhythm in my head rather than fumbling my way through. Also good to find authors who excel at specificity and using interesting, concrete detail to conjure images. Stephen King is great at this.

Although if you’ve not read him before then just a heads up, he’s pretty, uh, ~liberal~ with his use of racial slurs. Seems to be his way of saying “In case the murder didn’t convince you that they’re evil, here’s them being racist too”
