In my experience it’s a phrase that exists entirely to protect the company and won’t protect the individual whatsoever. I still have it, but I don’t trust it. But then also my takes aren’t particularly spicy so

That’s a fantastic point. And should we be protecting companies? Imo whenever I see that on someone’s profile I immediately get curious about which company they work for.

I think that depends on the company, the person and the reason. My instinct was 'no', but also a small company can be laid low by a reputation scandal, costing the careers of others who work there (and potentially hurting their families, etc).

Basically, big difference because a large, uncaring company using it to punish people for things that don't tow the company line VS a small, caring company in a precarious decision using it to protect other employees from the consequences of one person who legitimately fucks up.
