That’s a fantastic point. And should we be protecting companies? Imo whenever I see that on someone’s profile I immediately get curious about which company they work for.
I think that depends on the company, the person and the reason. My instinct was 'no', but also a small company can be laid low by a reputation scandal, costing the careers of others who work there (and potentially hurting their families, etc).

Basically, big difference because a large, uncaring company using it to punish people for things that don't tow the company line VS a small, caring company in a precarious decision using it to protect other employees from the consequences of one person who legitimately fucks up.

Most companies I've worked for have insisted you have it if you wanna say anywhere on your account that you work for them (which I've personally found advantageous). I'd be super suspicious of any company demanding it regardless though.
