I feel like my whole life is this dance of being quiet because people won’t get me, slowly getting comfortable, eventually revealing my true self, then backing off again when once again the real me was Too Much.

The only solution is to loudly introduce yourself to new people with a metaphorical "HELLO I'M WEIRD", so the few who stick around will be truly ready for anything
Ooof but how to reconcile that with my debilitating need to be loved by EVERYONE no matter how impossible that may be?

This decision was made for me when I got to a year into my first corporate job and got depressed from the effort of passing for normal. Eventually I just learned that the people who do that aren’t worth trying to impress
easier said than done I know but, possible.

Yep. This is my default stance when people aren’t actively telling they like me. And even that only lasts a couple of days before I become convinced they’ve changed their minds.
