Lukewarm take: Stories where the heroes prevent disaster are disappointing. I wanna see what happens when they fail. I wanna see that disaster play out.

Nope! I was thinking of FF7R (and probably the original) and Endgame (the wimpy one IMO) Twilight (Breaking Dawn) is another like that — it would have been so much better if they had all really died.

I should watch all the Twilight movies one of these days, now I'm not such a jaded teenager I know we've spoken about Sanderson before, but Mistborn is a pretty good representation of it, now I think about it

I guess? It’s what makes the premise alluring for sure, but we live out the aftermath rather than witnessing that terrible moment of change (although if I recall in MB it was gradual?). I’m a sucker for disasters that kick me right in the existential dread...

Whether it’s 2021, the first ep of Netflix’s Witcher or the pilot of AOT. The latter two especially... I can watch those over and over and it will always trigger an emotional response.
